7 Actions That Blocks Rizq and Reduces Barakah in Your Life

7 Rizq and Barakah Blockers that are stoping you from becoming Wealthy. Identify them in your life and learn how to boost Rizq and Barakah.

We all dream of financial stability, abundance of Rizq, and a life filled with blessings. Abdurrahman ibn Awf was known to be the richest Muslim entrepreneur at the time of prophet Muhammad and turned dust into gold!

Allah acknowledges this innate desire in the Quran:“And you love wealth with immense love.” (Surah Al-Fajr, 89:20)
It’s natural to seek prosperity, and even the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ made a powerful dua:
“O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and wealth.” (Muslim)

However, despite our efforts, certain actions can unknowingly block our rizq (sustenance) and reduce barakah (blessings) in our lives. If you’ve ever wondered why your wealth feels stagnant or unfulfilling, these seven common mistakes might be the reason. Let’s explore them and learn how to unlock the doors to abundance and divine blessings in this dunya.

Rizq Blocker 1: Sleeping After Fajr

The early morning is a time of immense barakah. And yes Ummat Muhammad knew this before today’s influencers bombarding us with ice cold baths at 4 am. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“O Allah, bless my nation in their early mornings.” (Abu Dawood)
Sleeping after Fajr wastes this sacred period when Allah distributes sustenance to His creation. By waking up early, you align yourself with this divine rhythm, setting the tone for a productive day. Start your day with purpose, and watch how opportunities unfold. Try this for 3 days in a row and see how your productivity doubles.

Rizq Blocker 2: Cutting Family Ties (Kat’ Al-Rahm)

Severing ties with relatives is one of the most significant barriers to rizq. The Prophet ﷺ emphasised:
“Whoever would like his provision to be abundant and his lifespan extended, let him uphold ties of kinship.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Even if your relatives are difficult, strive to maintain contact. The Prophet ﷺ advised:
“Maintain ties with your family, even if they cut you off.” (Ahmad)

By nurturing these relationships, you invite Allah’s mercy and barakah into your life.

In Islam, Silat Al-Rahm includes relatives such as parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims. The Prophet ﷺ emphasised the importance of treating them with kindness and respect, even if they are distant or difficult, as upholding these ties is a means of attracting Allah’s mercy and barakah.

Rizq Blocker 3: Holding Onto Items from Deceased Loved Ones

Keeping belongings of deceased loved ones out of sentimentality can unintentionally block your rizq. Holding items from your late relatives is not a sign of loyalty! Instead, consider donating these items as Zakat or sadaqah (charity). This act not only benefits others but also brings blessings to you and your departed loved ones. Letting go of material attachments can open doors to new blessings.

Rizq Blocker 4: Neglecting Salah

Salah is the cornerstone of a Muslim’s life, and neglecting it removes Allah’s blessings from your wealth. On top of Salah is the second pillar of Islam and that we could be labelled as Kuffar or disbelievers if we neglect Salah, prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Indeed, Allah sent down wealth to establish prayer.” (Tabarani)
If you want your wealth to grow with barakah, prioritise praying your Salah on time. It’s not just a spiritual obligation but a means to attract divine favour into your life.

Rizq Blocker 5: Not Making Enough Salah Upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Another major blocker of rizq is neglecting to send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Allah Himself sends blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ and commands the believers to do the same: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and greet him with peace” (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:56). The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him tenfold” (Sahih Muslim). Sending salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ not only earns you immense rewards but also opens doors to barakah in your life and wealth. Make it a daily habit to send abundant salawat, especially on Fridays, and witness how Allah increases your rizq and blessings.

Blocker 6: Zina and Haram Gaze

Unfortunately, failing to lower your gaze has become very common in today’s world. Everywhere we go, we are bombarded with temptations that challenge our iman. Allah commands in the Quran, “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their chastity. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do” (Surah An-Nur, 24:30). Lowering your gaze is not just about avoiding sin; it’s about protecting your heart, your iman, and your barakah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, “The glance is a poisoned arrow of Shaytan. Whoever lowers his gaze for the sake of Allah, He will replace it with sweetness of faith that he will find in his heart” (Musnad Ahmad).

In a world filled with distractions, it takes strong iman and self-discipline to lower your gaze. However, the rewards are immense. Not only does it protect you from zina and its consequences, but it also preserves the barakah in your wealth, relationships, and overall life.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“A man is deprived of provision because of the sins he commits.” (Ibn Majah)
Guarding your gaze and maintaining chastity protects your rizq and strengthens your spiritual connection with Allah.

Rizq Blocker 7: False Oaths (Yameen Al-Batil)

Swearing falsely for personal gain is a grave sin that drains barakah from your wealth and home. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“A false oath causes homes to become empty of blessings.” (Muslim)
Honesty and integrity attract Allah’s blessings, while deception pushes them away. Always strive to be truthful in your dealings.

Understanding Barakah and Its Role in Rizq

Barakah is the divine blessing that multiplies the value of your wealth, time, and efforts. Without it, even vast amounts of wealth can feel insufficient. The Prophet ﷺ advised:
“Rise early for your livelihood, for indeed, morning blessing brings success.” (Tabarani)

To invite barakah into your life:

  • Avoid sleeping after Fajr.
  • Start your day with purpose and gratitude.
  • Strengthen family ties and nurture relationships.
  • Give charity and let go of unnecessary attachments.

But why Do Some Disbelievers Have Incredible Wealth?

It’s natural to wonder why those who reject Allah often seem to enjoy great wealth. This is known as istidraj — a test where Allah grants them worldly success, allowing them to grow arrogant before facing their downfall. Allah says about Pharaoh and Qaroon:
“So We seized him and his hosts, and We flung them into the sea. So behold what was the end of the wrongdoers.” (Surah Al-Qasas, 28:40)

For believers, however, reduced rizq is often a reminder to return to Allah and seek His guidance. True prosperity isn’t about the quantity of wealth but its quality — wealth that carries barakah ensures contentment, growth, and stability.

This entire discussion is rooted in the wisdom of the Quran and Sunnah.

But what if you could access this wisdom directly?

Imagine reading the words of “رزق” (sustenance) and “بركة” (blessing) and feeling their weight and meaning in your heart, without a translator.

This isn’t just about learning a language. It’s about building a direct connection to the Divine Source of all Rizq.
